Genetically predicted l -carnitine was associated with higher risk of CAD in men (OR 1.07, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.14) but not women (OR 1.02, 95% CI 0.96 to 1.09), although the difference by sex did not reach statistical significance ( p value for sex difference 0.31) (Fig. 2 ).
