Note that these changes were more moderate than the differences between the cell lines in the untreated state and did not reach statistical significance, again suggesting that baseline differences in protein expression between the two cell lines, such as differences in MCL-1 levels, are more likely to be major determinants of cell fate upon bortezomib treatment than differences in signaling as a consequence of proteasomal inhibition.
