Higher histology stages of 3 and 4 were associated with higher mean biomarker levels, but this difference did not reach statistical significance regarding reported history of schistosomiasis infection, telomerase levels were significantly higher among those with schistosomiasis ( p < 0.001), but no such difference was found in terms of CD44 ( p = 0.768) or NMP22 levels ( p = 0.375).
