At the completion of the trial the composite primary end point (death, cardiac death equivalent, or HF hospitalisation) did not differ significantly between groups, but there a strong trend to harm with the intervention (54.1% vs. 50.8%; HR, 1.13; 95% CI, 0.97–1.31; p=0.10) and a significant excess in total mortality (HR, 1.28; 95% CI, 1.06–1.55; p=0.01) and cardiac related mortality (HR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.09–1.65; p=0.006).
