Compared with married patients, widowed patients suffered higher 1-year mortality (24.6% vs 17.2%, P = 0.010), and total mortality (41.2% vs 31.4%, P = 0.002), but the difference in mortality at 30 days did not reach statistical significance (4.2% vs 4.3%, P = 0.961).
