Lately, their association with IBS-D was replicated in four Chinese studies and recent genome-wide association studies showed a trend for HTR3A and HTR3E with IBS [ 16 – 21 ]. p.Y129S in HTR3B (rs1176744) that we had previously found to be associated with anorexia and depression was also reported in the context of IBS in a Japanese study, and was noted to be particularly associated with increased anxiety scores and alexithymia [ 22 – 24 ].
