Regarding pro-inflammatory cytokines, we observed in PTX3-silenced ECs (i) a significant increase in the interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) mRNA (by 3.4 ± 0.7 fold) ( Figure 4 b) and (ii) a rise in the gene expression of the interleukin-6 (IL-6) (by 1.6 ± 0.3 fold); however, this did not reach statistical significance ( Figure 4 c).
