When measuring beliefs on whether or not smoking can cause blindness, according to the participants’ smoking status and demographic data, we found that the number of male participants who believed smoking could “probably” or “definitely” cause blindness was statistically significantly higher than female participants (p=0.008), while the differences in age group (p=0.882), an education level (p=0.324), and residence region (p=0.260) did not reach statistical significance (see Table 5 ).
