In particular, hydrogels combining immune checkpoint inhibitors, adoptive cell therapy, and tumor vaccines have the potential to not only activate the immune system and prevent metastasis from spreading throughout the body but also prevent local recurrence, which may be an important trend of future application (Ishikawa et al., 2017 ).
