In the EMPA-REG OUTCOME trial (Empagliflozin Cardiovascular Outcome Event Trial in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients—Removing Excess Glucose), Empagliflozin has been shown to cause a numerically higher risk of both non-fatal stroke (hazard ratio (HR), 1.24; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0,92–1.67) and total (fatal or non-fatal) stroke (HR, 1.18; 95% CI, 0.89–1.56) compared to the placebo, although the results did not reach statistical significance [ 32 ].
