Results from PCR analysis revealed that the difference in mRNA expression level between placenta from preeclamptic patient and controls did not reach statistical significance, confirming the hypothesis that the abnormal presence of PLAC1 protein in a subset of preeclamptic patients, could be a consequence of irregular shedding instead of increased production.
