Discussion This meta-analysis on the clinical outcomes of systematic electrocardiogram-based AF screening in individuals without known AF has three key findings: 1) AF screening is associated with a marginally statistically significant 7% relative reduction in the incidence of stroke and systemic embolism, 2) there is no signal of an increase harm in terms of major bleeding events, and 3) screening has no effect on all-cause mortality.

These results should be interpreted as marginally statistically significant, which means that more studies are needed to fully assess the statistical significance of the measured effect.
