There was a trend towards a longer median OS with eribulin combination therapy (median not reached) compared with eribulin monotherapy (12.1 months, 95% CI 8.6–15.7) but this did not reach statistical significance ( p = 0.072, hazard ratio 0.531; Figure 3B ).

Interestingly, a systematic review and meta‐analysis of eribulin in locally advanced or MBC found that eribulin in third‐line or beyond was associated with a significant OS benefit versus non‐eribulin therapy, but the benefit only approached significance in first/second line, 28 which indicated that further evidence from large randomized trials was required to full assess eribulin versus paclitaxel as first‐ or second‐line therapy.
