There was a highly significant main effect of Picture Category ( F (2, 30) = 99.0, p < .001, η p 2 = .868) which was also accompanied by non‐significant effects for Time ( F (1, 15) = 3.38, p = .086, η p 2 = .184) and Time by Picture Category ( F (2, 30) = 0.34, p = .712, η p 2 = .022).
Post‐hoc testing revealed a significantly reduced LPP to the erotic‐erotic ( M = 0.49 μV, CI 95 = [0.11; 0.86]) as compared to the mutilation‐erotic ( M = 0.71 μV, CI 95 = [0.22; 1.19]) picture sequence ( t (15) = −2.40, p = .030, uncorrected, Cohen's d = −0.60), and the comparison with the neutral‐erotic sequence approached significance ( M = 0.71 μV, CI 95 = [0.14; 1.28]); ( t (15) = −1.64, p = .121).
This effect was replicated in the present study, with three out of four independent tests reaching significance and the remaining one approaching significance.
