The number of neurons positive for Kiss1 mRNA in the AVPV of female hpg mice was significantly lower than in WT females (24.7±1.2 neurons/section; P<0.001; Neuman-Keuls post-hoc), whereas the number in the hpg males (17.1±2.9 neurons/section) showed a trend towards an increase compared to WT males but did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.057; Mann-Whitney) ( Fig. 2B ) .
