An analysis of specific radiographic features in a sample from the OAI found that osteophyte status (at baseline) was not associated with medial cartilage loss over 12 months but that knees with medial joint space narrowing showed a trend towards higher rates of change than those without, and that knees with medial femoral subchondral bone sclerosis displayed significantly greater rates of progression than those without [ 120 ].
