In accordance with the elevated histone H3 levels in the RTT samples, the modified versions of histone H3 investigated—histone H3 trimethylated on lysine 4 (H3K4me3), histone H3 acetylated on lysine 9 (H3K9ac) and histone H3 acetylated on lysine 27 (H3K27ac)—showed a trend toward higher levels of occupancy in the RTT samples with the only statistically significant change being an increase in H3K9ac on the myoglobin exon (data not shown).
