Among two Asian studies, the Singapore Chinese Health Study reported an inverse association of diabetes with soy intake and an inverse borderline significant association with isoflavone intake ( 12 ), whereas the Japan Public Health Centre-Based Prospective Study observed no significant association between soy or isoflavone intakes and type 2 diabetes in the whole population; however, among overweight Japanese women there was an inverse association ( 13 ).
A significant trend was also detected for total flavonoids (HR 0.90 [95% CI 0.77–1.04]; P for trend 0.040).
