ERβ expression was associated with a reduced risk of death from any cause (HR 0.58, 95% CI 0.33, 1.03, p = 0.06) and reduced cancer-specific mortality (HR 0.59, 95% CI 0.32, 1.07, p = 0.08), although results failed to reach statistical significance.

This is the first study to investigate sex hormone receptor expression in EAC patients by tumor location and there was a suggestion that ERβ expression was associated with a reduction in the risk of all-cause and cancer-specific death in patients with GEJ cancer, albeit findings did not reach statistical significance.
