53 One study based on the Framingham Heart Study showed a trend toward an association between higher sST2 with incident microalbuminuria in participants without CKD, but this did not reach statistical significance. 11 Furthermore, our previous study of a cohort of older adults did not find a statistically significant association of higher sST2 with kidney function decline 25 ; however, that study was limited largely to participants without CKD, which differs from our study population.
