Regarding the taxon-specific effects, improved sanitation afforded a moderately significant 12% reduction in risk of infection with any enteric virus (RR = 0.88 (0.82, 0.95)) and a slightly significant 9% for either protozoa (RR = 0.91 (0.83, 1.00)), and a highly statistically significant 19% reduction in the equivalent risk for any enteric bacteria (RR = 0.81 (0.72, 0.90)).
