In patients with multiple missing teeth (3 to 19 missing out of the normal 32) the correlation with CAC was significant, but did not quite reach significance (P=0.076) when adjusted for the co-variables of age, male sex and hypercholesterolemia.

The sentences
Tooth loss had a standardized Beta correlation coefficient with the CAC scores of 0.11 (versus 0.49 for age, 0.23 for male sex and 0.17 for hypercholesterolemia) and showed a trend to be associated but this failed to reach statistical significance (p = 0.079).
Furthermore, the results showed a trend for more teeth with peri-apical lesions and a higher percentage of mean alveolar bone loss in the group with the highest CAC scores.
