The sentences
Two follow-up studies would be required: one might be a review of retinae that have developed DCMO to see if OCT scans taken prior to its development showed a trend of increasing sub-clinical foveolar thickening that was not noticed at the time, but which can be demonstrated retrospectively; the other should be a longitudinal study of diabetic individuals using frequent SS-OCT to see if a trend of progressive foveolar thickening can culminate in DCMO.
