In maternal breastmilk samples on days 14 and 28, no SCFAs were significantly different for infants with BPD compared to no BPD, or ROP compared to no ROP, after adjusting for multiple comparisons ( Table 3 ); however, in infants’ stool samples on day 14, acetic acid approached significance for infants with BPD compared to no BPD (446 ± 564 vs. 1000 ± 712 μg/g, adjusted p = 0.05) ( Table 4 ).
