Discussion In this prospective controlled study, we demonstrated that subcutaneous injection of teriparatide was noninferior to oral alendronate in improving BMD at lumbar spine in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis; moreover, teriparatide showed a trend toward superiority for increasing lumbar spine BMD as well as greater reductions in fracture risks, compared with alendronate during 48 weeks treatment.
