How 'mild dietary restrictions' in the form of ad libitum feeding followed by alternate fasting can be adapted to the human situation remains open. Surgical removal of tumours at a size of 1 cm3 followed by reduction of luxury calories led to an almost significant inhibition of new tumour growth but not to a decreased recurrence rate of tumours in our study.
However, whilst all loci that met genome-wide significance using the simple meta-analytic strategy were also significant or almost significant using DINGO (i.e. all loci would be flagged by researchers as significant or suggestive), many genome-wide significant loci that displayed directionally discordant effects in the two-degree-of-freedom DINGO test exhibited p -values that were far less extreme using the simple meta-analytic strategy, including some loci that may have been missed entirely (e.g. the GLIS3 locus discussed below).
Considering such almost significant reduction in waist circumference, despite increases in body mass, could indicate that the dance training may have led to accretion in lean mass, which was also supported by the qualitative results, where several participants reported experiencing increased muscle strength over the study period.
