The logistic regression analysis revealed that 15 out of 19 agronomic factors, including “district” as an independent variable, exhibited a statistically highly significant association ( p < 0.0001) with both CLS incidence and severity when added at first (Analysis I) and last (Analysis III) into the model (Table 3 ).

SIRIUS follow-up results presented at ACC showed that the highly significant differences (p < 0.0001) between the CYPHER stent and bare metal control stent for all clinical event endpoints were sustained at 3-years.

Event-specific cumulative incidence curves were thus estimated from the decomposition of the EFS curves and a computer program (COMPETE) developed at the Institut Gustave-Roussy was used for the calculations. Results obtained using the competing risk approach were compared to the method of ignoring or censoring other events for the data provided here. Results The EFS curves for the three groups are shown in Figure 1. The difference in EFS between the low risk group and both high risk groups was highly significant (P<0.0001).

Full details of the terms are given in Additional file 4 : Tables S3-S8. As a confirmation of the validity of the RNA-seq transcript abundance estimates, a highly significant positive correlation (r = 0.9119, P < 0.0001) was found between the RNAseq and qRT-PCR datasets derived from the abundance of six transcripts in three population samples, Trento, Athens and Ban Rai (Additional file 5 : Figure S2, Additional file 6 : Table S9).
