Among rural students, learning motivation was significantly higher in the experimental group (M = 5.35) than in the control group (M = 4.23; t = 4.06, p < 0.001), whereas among urban students the corresponding difference was smaller and reached only marginal significance (M = 5.07 vs. 4.53; t = 1.85, p = 0.067).

Furthermore, the interaction of stimulus, task, and group reached significance for the frontal area ( F 1, 50 = 5.001, P = 0.030, η 2 = 0.091) and central area ( F 1, 50 = 4.537, P = 0.038, η 2 = 0.083), and marginal significance for the occipital area ( F 1, 50 = 3.515, P = 0.067, η 2 = 0.066).

The difference between Group A and Group B approached marginal significance (M difference = − 0.472, p = .067), while no significant difference was observed between Group A and Group C (M difference = − 0.335, p = .297).

The results indicate that for the left eye AOI the difference between the two groups was not significant, although marginal significance was observed, F (1,35) = 3.56, p = .067.

While the effects from pH could be present but only at the marginal significance level (r 2 = 0.40, p = 0.067).

Two differences from the AFDP results include that the AHB marriage effects (1) first reached nonsignificance at the second-to-last age bin of 31–34 (rather than at the last age bin in AFDP) and (2) appeared to reverse direction at the last age bin of 35–39 such that becoming married predicted increased problem drinking at these ages (albeit with only “marginal significance” of p = .067).
