Significantly fewer participants in the lower HbA 1c group had developed new microalbuminuria (9.21% versus 15.65%, p = 0.012), and the cumulative prevalence of microalbuminuria prior to year 1 almost achieved significance (14.77% versus 20.02%, p = 0.054).

The significant main effects PCV was lower in bitches with an average‐sized litter (mean = 41%) relative to the non‐pregnant bitches (mean = 45%, p = 0.008), although the lowered PCV in bitches with a large litter (mean = 42%) relative to the non‐pregnant bitches almost achieved significance ( p = 0.055; Figure 2 ).

All other physiological and anthropometric measurements proved to not be significantly associated with serum BDNF levels ( p > 0.05), although higher levels in males compared to females almost achieved significance ( p = 0.056).

While increasing age at diabetes diagnosis (OR 1.06 per year; 95% CI’s 1.03, 1.09), diabetes duration (OR 1.19 per year; 95% CI’s 1.13, 1.26) and increasing TC (OR 1.47 per 0.1 mM; 95% CI’s 1.08, 2.01) were also independent determinants for CKD-eGFR <60, sBP almost achieved significance as well (OR 1.02 per mm Hg; 95% CI’s 0.999, 1.04; p = 0.059).

While the 100 μM concentration almost achieved significance ( p = 0.06), the aforementioned variability could be an explanation for not meeting the significance cutoff.

Effects regarding right globus pallidus almost achieved significance with (β = −0.765, P = 0.066).

Both corresponding Qs almost achieved significance [Q(8) = 14.66, p = 0.066 and Q(6) = 10.66, p = 0.099].

Two other predictor variables, combining a chemical with the community intervention and time at follow-up almost achieved significance.

In the cohort starting 2004 ( Table 1 ) there was no significant change in the score for learning approach by the beginning of academic year 2008 (Year 5; for intercalating students, Year 4), although the fall in surface score almost achieved significance.

The difference regarding transportation almost achieved significance.

This almost achieved significance in the right IT with the ANOVA test but did so with the permutation test (5.19 ± 0.30 per bin during learning vs 5.85 ± 0.27 per bin after learning, F 1,39 = 3.59, p = 0.066, PT, p = 0.04)(see Additional file 1 , Figure S10).
