Finally, the near-significant stepwise increase in severe IVH (6.8% → 19.4% → 33.3%) highlights a pattern that has been linked in other cohorts to infection-related hemodynamic instability and inflammatory injury, and multiple studies report worse neurodevelopment after neonatal sepsis in extremely preterm populations at 2 years of age [ 22 , 23 ].
