a clear trendgold
Interestingly, a phylogenetic study of the PD ring identified a clear trend, in which the PD rings of the primitive unicellular eukaryotes with smaller genomes are larger than those of the multiplastidic cells of land plants [ 5 , 49 ]; therefore, C. merolae is one of the most suitable organisms for studying the involvement of the PD ring in plastid division.
