Multivariate logistic regression revealed that after adjustment for potential confounders, including the percentage of systolic blood pressure < 90 mmHg in the ED, respiration rate at arrival, and volume of transfused blood in the first 24 h, because they reached or were near statistical significance, a univariate analysis showed a tendency of a shorter ICU LOS for the group with suspected pelvic fractures that were initially stabilized with a pelvic binder, but this tendency did not reach statistical significance (OR, 0.95; p = 0.269).
In the overall analysis, greater amounts of energy and protein were consistently associated with a reduction in infection but only achieved levels near statistical significance when considering the incremental effect of 1,000 kcal/day and 30 g/day on patients with at least one probable infection after >96 hours (odds ratio (OR) 0.32, 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.10 to 1.03, P = 0.055 and OR 0.41, 95% CI 0.19 to 0.89, P = 0.024 for energy and protein, respectively).
In the subgroup analysis of patient samples only (excluding subjects for health examination), the OR of detection of anti-nucleosome/histone/dsDNA using AC-1 in the original data was 1.36 (95% confidence interval, CI 0.33–5.61, p -value = 0.67); furthermore, the OR of detection of anti-nucleosome/histone/dsDNA using AC-1 in the re-evaluated data increased to 5.43 (95% CI 1.00–29.61, p -value = 0.05), which was near statistical significance.
The only associations near statistical significance were that postmenopausal women with A 1 / A 1 (wild-type) genotype had an increased risk of breast cancer if they had ever used hormone replacement therapy (OR 2.40, 95% CI 1.0 to 5.7; P = 0.05) and if they had menopause after age 47 years (OR 2.59, 95% CI 1.0 to 7.0; P = 0.06).
