Given the proximity of indicators for medicine availability to the cascade outcomes in the causal relationship, one would expect these to be among the most strongly associated indicators with diabetes treatment and control, but were only found to be 'approaching significance'.
However, consistent with an a priori expectation that symbiotic extended phenotypes are governed by many variants with small effects, we indeed found that within a single GWAS, variant effect sizes tended to be small, with few approaching significance after conventional Bonferroni correction and additional analyses (see Fig.
We found that, in the power- and endurance-based fitness tests, sit-ups, and running endurance, as well as in the more coordination-based skill ball throw, school sport in Germany had a higher impact on the performance in the third grade, whereas in other abilities, such as sideward jumping, with approaching significance in China, a greater performance was detected.
However, normalization of ligand-stimulated phospho-PDGFR levels to unstimulated phospho-PDGFR levels for each sample indicated lower relative induction approaching significance for PDGFRβ homodimers following 5 min of ligand stimulation in the PDGFRαV1/βV2 cell line compared to this same timepoint in the PDGFRβV1/βV2 cell line (Supplementary Fig. 11C ), indicating that PDGFRα/β heterodimers may indeed serve as ligand sinks.
When only 1 item per category was presented, the in–out effect emerged with an already non-neglectable but insignificant effect size of d z = 0.22, increased in effect size approaching significance (mind Bonferroni-correction for multiple testings) when 5 items per category were presented and reached a solid plateau of highly significant effects for 10 to 50 items per category.
