There were overall treatment effects of borderline significance on the educational outcome variables.

After the reciprocal adjustments, vaccination rate against seasonal influenza still showed an inverse association of borderline significance, which was weakened, but still visible, when using the crude cumulative incidence calculated over the whole resident population.

Exclusion of one study in turn from the sensitivity analyses showed that a decreased risk of borderline significance was associated with egg intake ( Figure 3 ).

When examining the presence of ≥2 valves with grade 2+ valvular regurgitation, cabergoline only users had higher age-sex-adjusted odds compared with bromocriptine only users (adjusted odds ratio 8.4, 95% CI: 1.0–72.2, P = 0.05), as was combined exposure (adjusted odds ratio 8.8, 95% CI: 1.0–75.8, P = 0.05) that was of borderline significance.

Nuclear grade (RR 1.6) and negative ER status (RR 1.7) were of borderline significance, while tumour size, p53 positivity and carrier status did not achieve significance ( Table 2 ).

No significant differences between amplified and non-amplified tumours were observed with regard to node status, clinical stage, tumour size or menopausal status, although correlations of borderline significance were found between node status, clinical stage and high degree of gene amplification.

Discussion In our study, we find a 20% increased risk of colorectal cancer (though of borderline significance) in relation to type 2 diabetes, the excess risk being higher for a longer diabetes history and for proximal colon cancer.
