NTS rates were higher in the malaria season in Gambia [7] and decreased concomitantly with a decreasing trend in malaria prevalence over several years in Gambia, Tanzania and coastal Kenya [25] , [31] , [32] .

The total number of AML-ETO+ LSK cells showed a slight trend for elevated numbers when short term cultured on aged endosteal cells compared to young cells, but remained overall relatively similar in response to incubation on young and aged endosteal cells ( Figure 3E ).

Distribution of the 822 bp mtDNA deletion among cases and controls When the subjects from both cases and controls were pooled and stratified by median number of pack-years of combined cases and controls, a subsequent linear-by-linear association test revealed an increasing trend for mtDNA deletion from non-smoking to heavy smoking groups (both p value and p trend <0.001) ( Fig. 2A ).

The attenuated calcium accumulation response in naked mole-rat hippocampus was highly significant compared to the response in mouse hippocampus, whether assessed in animals at an early stage of postnatal development (P6) or in weanlings (P20).

The relationship presents a negative trend, as a lower skewness generally means a higher proportion of people in relatively inaccessible areas.

When we examined the effects of gis1 and rph1 on this set of genes we found a highly significant pattern similar to that of ACS2 and ACH1 ( Table 5 ).

rossii mitochondria showed a slight trend to increasing contributions of CI with rising temperatures.

This may serve as a potential mediator of immune escape in CRC and the detection of ORM2 may be significant in distinguishing colorectal carcinogenesis from IBD.

However, this is of borderline significance as the sample size for breastfeeding was rather small.

There was a highly significant negative linear correlation between domoic acid production rates and pH in these Si(OH) 4 -limited cultures (r 2 = 0.94).

While the somatodendritic enrichment of TRIP8b(1a) did not result in a significant shift of HCN1 localization, a clear trend towards the somatodendritic compartment was recognizable ( Fig. 6e–h, i, j , arrowheads).

In this regard, the extensive YFP expression in hair follicles may be significant, since this is also thought to be the site of origin of stems cells for skin epithelia [35] , [36] , [37] .

Demographic characteristics of students who did not provide blood were generally similar to those who did, except for borderline significance for having lived on a farm or in a village ( Table 1 ).

There is again a strong trend for higher activities with AFG1 than AFB1, although overall there is a strong positive correlation between the two activities ( Fig. 3 ).

Both the CD4 + ∶T Reg and the CD8 + ∶T Reg ratios were notably altered in the arm receiving daclizumab as compared to saline controls with the ratio of CD4 + ∶T Regs trending towards significance and the ratio of CD8 + ∶T Regs demonstrating a significant increase in the average percent change from baseline (p = 0.0757 and p = 0.0153, respectively).

While these are also small studies, these results may be significant given that the expected progression-free survival is 6.9–8.2 months in this patient population [74] , [75] .

Although several nutrients were associated with risk of CE in the basic multivariate model, most notably monosaccharides and fiber in both men and women (both negatively), no nutrients retained significance in the full model, although the protective fiber association in women was of borderline significance ( p for trend = 0.067).

Only the protective association with fiber in men ( p for trend = 0.050) remained borderline significant after full adjustment.

A substantial and highly significant reduction in the percentage of p21 CIP1/WAF1 positive cells was seen upon knockdown of three of the validated targets, PRPK/TP53RK, the MAPK pathway component STK4/MST1 and CDK4 ( Figure 3A, C ).

Demonstration that an observed trend controls diversity would be infeasible outside multiple generation studies under tightly controlled experimental conditions, conditions that might have little relevance to field settings.

The difference in survival time between Mock/MYC mice and FLIP L /MYC was not statistically significant whereas the difference in survival times between Mock/MYC and BCL-X L /MYC mice was highly significant ( Table 1 ).

We considered a ratio of 1.5 to be highly significant based on the assumption that one of the two Notch1 alleles produces the cryptic transcripts at the same level as the full-length species.
