The presence of four sacrals (DS+S1+S2+CS) in Leonerasaurus , coupled with its smaller body size and its position as the sister group of the large bodied clade of Melanorosaurus +Sauropoda, is highly significant for understanding the origin of the sauropod-type sacrum.
