“near-significant”

This near-significant finding indicates emerging long-term benefits, with the lower RR indicating a potential halving of progression risk, though the upper CI approaching unity cautions against overinterpretation.

By contrast, there were significant or near-significant decreases in the value of k 1 in active treatment vs control groups in each trial, and a significant decrease in the average k 1 across the trials ( Table 3 ; control k 1 = 0.030 ± 0.004 vs active treatment k 1 = 0.016 ± 0.003, p < 0.01).

They found that the effect of age on outcome may vary by type of outcome, reporting strong evidence of no effect when disability was the outcome, while finding a near-significant positive effect when symptoms (pain) was the outcome.

The near-significant effects of genotype on trials ( Fig. 2C ) and incorrect responses ( Fig. 2D ) to criterion in the full reversal test could be accounted for by retarded egocentric discrimination learning (trials, F 1,30 = 0.64, p = .43; incorrect responses, F 1,30 = 0.57, p = .46).

Contrary to expectations, aphid colonization was unaffected by eT or eCO 2 , but there was a near-significant 10% reduction in colonization rates on plants with weevils present belowground.

Given the near-significant result and the low number of older participants (>60, N = 7), we must interpret this finding with restraint.

Imagine for instance a variant that produces a near-significant effect when analyzed separately for two or three traits.

Similar patterns were observed for PROMIS pain interference, with greater improvements in the sublaminar group at the 2-week and 6-month time points, and a near-significant difference at three months.

This near-significant result does not suggest irrelevance, but rather points to the conditional nature of AI’s impact.

With six haplogroups, significant or near-significant relationships were observed with one or more of the parameters in the regression model ( Table 1 , Figures 2 and 3 , Table S1 ).

LLS showed a negative, near-significant correlation with SLA , which confirms that species with cheaper leaves (high SLA ) tend to be better equipped for replacing leaves rapidly than species with more expensive leaves (low SLA ).

In addition, a greedy approach was taken, in which the fold-change of near-significant DEGs (fold-change >4), meeting the aforementioned quality criteria, were also included to more closely examine the expression behavior of genes annotated to specific canonical signaling pathways of interest, identified in Figure 2a (see Figure 2b ).

Although we did not have sufficient numbers of patients with post-treatment samples to attempt to analyze sex-related differences, we did observe, as previously reported in lung cancer patients ( 16 ), a significant increase in CXCL10 in non-responders while on-treatment, as well as a near-significant increase in IL-6.

Despite common claims in practice, core training did not demonstrate significant improvements in maximal strength, and showed only near-significant effects on vertical jump performance while demonstrating limited or non-significant effects on speed, flexibility, change of direction, technical skills, and throwing performance.

One challenge with this method is how to treat near-significant interactions.

For ECR, neither condition nor time nor their interaction reached significance, while ECU and FCR demonstrated small but significant or near-significant temporal trends that were largely shared by both limbs, and FCU remained stable throughout.

In men, the near-significant contributions of birth weight were slightly accentuated and reached significance for both HDL-C (β = 10, p = .030) and Apo A1 (β = .10 p = .041).

Stronger experience correlated with improved camera navigation metrics—most notably shorter distance travelled in 30° camera manipulation (ρ = –0.50, p =0.005), with similar trends for 0° navigation (near-significant).

Injection of AAV2.sIL17R resulted in sIL17R protein expression, no change in retinal Il17a transcripts, and a near-significant reduction in Il6 ( Figure S1C–E ), supporting sIL17R expression in AAV2.sIL17R- but not in AAV2.EV-treated eyes.

Overstated claims and misleading trends (e.g., near-significant findings) have been corrected.

It was hypothesized that extending the exercise program by 4 weeks would result in sustained improvements across outcome measures, with certain measures like resting blood pressure expected to reach statistical significance at 8 weeks, based on the near-significant changes observed at 4 weeks in our previously published study (Kirk et al. 2025 ).
