When under-five child mortality was added to the previous multivariate model, the relationship between non-receipt of a vitamin A capsule and previous under-five child mortality in the family was of borderline significance (PR 1.03, 95% CI 0.99–1.08).

For proximal femur BMD and t-score, the negative association was statistically significant at baseline, whereas those at the 48th week were of borderline significance in Model 1 (Table 2 ).

The resting membrane potential (RMP) of the MSNs were somewhat more depolarized in the zQ175 mice, although this was a modest and quite variable phenomenon of borderline significance ( Fig. 4a ).

There were no significant treatment effects identified in the intervention school children’s mean psychosocial scale QOL and mean overall QOL compared to the control school (Table 3 and Figure 2 ), however trends suggest a treatment effect of borderline significance from baseline to post-test (7 weeks) (Table 3 ).

The association for living in a household that owned livestock (versus living in a household that did not own livestock) was of borderline significance (odds ratio: 1.3; 95% CI: 1.0-1.7).

However, when our final model was adjusted for passive smoking, most associations were strengthened, but the association with passive smoking was reversed and was only of borderline significance.

Considering the whole EPIC population of our study, targeted proteomics indicated that CLU was the only protein slightly higher in CRC than in controls, but the difference was of borderline significance.

Age- and sex-standardized prevalences showed a significant difference for any retinopathy (South Asian 48.3% [95% CI 43.5–53.1] versus white European 37.2% [33.3–41.0]) but not STR (South Asian 17.3% [13.7–20.9] versus white European 12.4% [9.7–15.0] and were of borderline significance for maculopathy (South Asian 14.4% [11.1–17.8] versus white European 8.8% [6.5–11.1]).

However, no significant association was observed between MAR score and low CC and only the NAR for magnesium was significant in the fully adjusted model for low CC; protein in g/kg body weight was of borderline significance.

Potential interactions between all predictors in the model and variables excluded from the model but of borderline significance were also tested.

There was also a higher mortality rate (of borderline significance) in the pregnancy group compared to the control groups [ 20 , 21 ].

However, although the changes were of borderline significance, middle-aged control hearts appeared to recover better during reperfusion (5/8) than hearts from their young counterparts (3/6).

Similar caution must be advised for the interpretation of borderline significance because of multiple testing (ΔCPO and NT‐proBNP).

Eradication of HCV infection was suggested as a risk factor, although of borderline significance.

There was also no strong evidence for variation in the vitamin D allele score–BMI association by average BMI of the study (≤25 kg/m 2 versus ≥25 kg/m 2 ), although for the synthesis score the meta-regression coefficient was of borderline significance ( p meta-regression = 0.053, Figure S8 ; p meta-regression = 0.78 for metabolism score).

Those who performed rotating shift work (with and without nights) had a small increase in risk for SGA compared to daytime workers that was of borderline significance (OR 1.09, 95% CI 1.00–1.18).
