Key pathway differences included: LogBA → DOC Rem was highly significant under dark conditions but not under light-coupled conditions; E2/E3 → DOC Rem shifted from a positive effect in the microbe-only treatment to no effect under coupling; meanwhile, the SUVA254 → LogBA path was significant in the microbe-only treatment, indicating bacterial preference for small aromatic fractions.
Excerpts
Fungal communities of heavily invaded sites were shifted along NMDS axis 1 in relation to those of uninvaded and lightly invaded sites (Figure 4 C), but PerMANOVA found invasion level to be only marginally significant when soil texture and habitat were included in the model (Table 2 ).
aeruginosa from CF patients are anaerobic (Hassett et al., 2009 ) is likely to be significant in the context of antimicrobial resistance since many agents are inactive or less active under anaerobiosis (Schobert and Tielen, 2010 ).
The biological implications of this reaction may be significant in anoxic areas, but most evidence suggests that double demethylation is not a major fate of DMSP in marine surface waters.
In the presence of Cu 2+ at concentrations of 16 μM or greater, NO 3 - reduction occurred, and the extent of reduction increased with pH, becoming quite significant at pH 8 and above.
However, with the exception of day 10, the total ANTX culture concentrations were not statistically different between the three treatments on a given day, with the exception of day 10, despite highly significant differences in culture biomass.
ANOSIM ( R = 0.378, P = 0.001) and perMANOVA ( R 2 = 0.221, P = 0.001) analyses confirmed highly significant habitat partitioning among archaeal amoA sequence types (Table 3 ; Table A2 in Appendix).
a clear trendgold
When cultures were grown at lower temperatures (30 and 22°C, see above), transcripts for hspA were much less abundant compared to standard growth at 38°C (5- to 10-fold, respectively), which indicated a clear trend: hspA transcript levels increased directly as the temperature increased.
Both nirS gene copy numbers showed a decreasing trend with sediment depth.
Quantitative assessment of metal partitioning in contaminated wetlands will allow for the evaluation of long-term remediation efficiency, and illustrate which minerals play more or less significant roles in metals sequestration.
OVERALL CONCLUSIONS ON METABOLIC PATHWAYS Taking into account the free energy calculations, SSU rRNA gene data and the relative abundance of functional genes in the metagenome, we conclude that several sulfur redox reactions may be significant in this environment (see Figure 8 ).
A number of studies suggest Marinobacter may be significant in ‘low-temperature’ hydrothermal systems, defined by low-temperature hydrothermalism (e.g., ~8 to ~40°C, McCollom and Shock, 1997 ) or ambient seawater temperatures (e.g., ~2° in the deep ocean).
The PIC:POC ratio did not change significantly with rising CO 2 [Figure 4C ; F (2,6) = 1.41, p = 0.315] although a decreasing trend could be observed.
a worrying trendgold
Although tigecycline resistance has not been tested at the time of isolation (Leski et al., 2013 ), the high frequency of tet (X) encountered in clinical samples signifies a worrying trend.
We detected significant lignin degradation over time by absorbance, and also used metabolomics to demonstrate moderately significant decreased xylose concentrations as well as increased metabolic products acetate and formate in stationary phase in lignin-amended compared to unamended growth conditions.
The crystal size, crystallographic orientation and arrangement of magnetosomes in MTB are all highly significant for the magnetic properties of the cell (Frankel and Blakemore, 1980 ; Mann et al., 1984a , b ; Moskowitz et al., 1988 ; Bazylinski and Frankel, 2003 ).
Significant community overlap between the archaeal 16S rRNA communities in Ponds 11 and 12 was confirmed with the ∫-LIBSHUFF and AMOVA comparisons both of which showed no significant difference between the two libraries (Table 3 ), but highly significant differences when those libraries were compared with the Pond 9 library.
pastoris , at least, there is an increasing trend in its usage suggesting that these advantages have become more widely known.
a clear trendgold
They show a clear trend of movement toward the origin over time, which occurs as the concentration of the C2 homolog declines with respect to the C3 homolog.
a negative trendgold
In all dilutions of the intermediate-decay inoculum, a negative trend in total hydrolytic activity was recorded toward the end of the incubation (Figure 4B ).
( 2013 ) related that boldo ( Peumus boldus Mol.) essential oil showed antifungal activity in peanut extract medium at doses of 1500 μL/L, that is, a highly significant effect on Aspergillus section Flavi growth rate (93 and 100% of inhibition) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) accumulation (100% of inhibition).
In the 96-wells plate we could test the short-term response in presence of AB of re-isolated strains and re-assembled communities from AB treatments: the difference in the growth curves of the re-assembled communities from treatments with AB in comparison with those of the “non-adapted” ones were already highly significant after 48 h from the beginning of the incubation.
In contrast, exposure of the biofilm to nitric oxide, H 2 O 2 or the DNA damaging agent, mitomycin C, showed a trend of increased numbers of SI phage, suggesting that reactive oxygen or nitrogen species (RONS) played a role in the formation of SI phage.
albicans , although hIL-37Tg mice showed a trend toward an increased IL-10 production ( Figure 4 ).
Nine phyla and 36 genera showed highly significant differences between wet and arid soils ( Table 2 ).
