Close margins showed a trend toward increased risk that did not reach statistical significance (hazard ratio 2.18, 95% CI 0.98–4.86, p = 0.057; 8 events among 38 patients), likely reflecting limited statistical power given the small number of events.

In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, male gender showed a trend toward being a risk factor for complicated appendicitis ( p = 0.06), but this did not reach statistical significance.
