Although we attempted to match the two groups in terms of age, sex, and IQ, the difference in IQ between the two groups just failed to reach statistical significance (p = 0.054), with the musicians’ mean IQ being higher by 5.4 points.

Analysis of gender suggested that male participants showed a trend towards responding faster for targets at invalid rather than valid target locations [i.e., those not coinciding with a motion cue; F(1,62) = 3.8, p = 0.055], which is reminiscent of an inhibition effect often observed during nonsocial orienting 23 , 79 , and dovetails with Bayliss et al . 42 who also found no gender differences during nonsocial orienting.

The linear dominance within the investigated ranges is reinforced by quadratic effects such as filler 2 , which approach borderline significance ( P = 0.055, 1.57% contribution) but are still negligible overall.

The interaction between system use and arousal level was marginally significant (p = 0.055), nevertheless, its addition to the model accounted for a significant 5% increase in the variance of ARSQ.

While age remained significant (B = -0.153, p = 0.049), right VIIb volume approached significance (B = 1.690, p = 0.055) and accounted for an additional 2.9% of the variance.
