Additional limitations include the difficulty in diagnosing symptomatic RP in the setting of patients with underlying lung disease susceptible to community or healthcare-acquired pneumonia, general homogeneity of the studied population, lack of information on quit dates for current smokers versus former smokers, and near-significant heterogeneity of the location of treated lesions between the symptomatic RP and asymptomatic cohorts.
Older age at the time of primary surgery was associated with a higher risk of reoperation (OR per year = 1.261; p = 0.024), independent of follow-up duration, which was uniform across the cohort Preoperative occlusion therapy ( p = 0.075) and age at surgery ( p = 0.055) demonstrated near-significant trends but did not meet the pre-defined significance threshold.
For both validation sets, there was either a highly significant or near-significant concordance between tumors assigned as “mir-155 positive” by the HEK293 signature and those tumors assigned as “mir-155 positive” by the gastric-derived hsa-miR-155 expression signature (p = 5.8×10−7 for glioblastoma and p = 0.06 for ovarian cancer; chi-square test) ( Table S4 ).
Even when the fraction of coupled p-MDTA allele pairs at linked microsatellites in the buffalo genome linearly decreases from a value as high as 0.8 at 24.9°S to 0.5 (expected fraction in the absence of selection) at 4.8°N, the probability of observing a significant ( α = 0.05) or near-significant ( α = 0.1) difference in average latitude with a Student’s t -test between coupled and repulsed allele pairs was only 34% and 46%, respectively (60 r LD estimates from 24 locations using 50 randomizations).
It was hypothesized that extending the exercise program by 4 weeks would result in sustained improvements across outcome measures, with certain measures like resting blood pressure expected to reach statistical significance at 8 weeks, based on the near-significant changes observed at 4 weeks in our previously published study (Kirk et al. 2025 ).
