BCAA levels were negatively associated with vegetables (standardized β = −0.029, p = 0.088; −0.051, p = 0.003; −0.038, p = 0.043 for leucine, isoleucine, and valine, respectively), dairy (−0.037, p = 0.029; −0.063, p < 0.001; −0.041, p = 0.028), and fruit (−0.031, p = 0.084; −0.039, p = 0.030; −0.041, p = 0.034), and a positive trend was observed for meat and meat-derived products, but the associations did not reach statistical significance.
Intake of animal food sources such as “meat and poultry”, “eggs”, “fish and shellfish”, and “milk and dairy products” increased significantly before adjusting for gender, age, and energy intake (unadjusted p -value for trend <0.001, “milk and dairy products” were not significant before adjusting.), and showed a decreasing trend after adjustment for gender, age, and energy intake (adjusted p -value for trend <0.01).
After 12 weeks, platelet aggregation levels approached significance for the PE-1000 group compared to the PLA and Cr-400 groups.
We found evidence that supplementing the diet with these nutrients significantly improved and/or approached significant improvements in some measures of endothelial function, platelet aggregation, insulin sensitivity, and blood lipid profiles while promoting more optimal changes in body composition, strength, and aerobic capacity than diet and exercise alone.
The results showing a statistical trend may signal an increase in the number of organic consumers associated with other sustainable changes in the food system—more than 55% of the members of this group are also willing to eat less meat and more plant-based foods, opt for products with high animal welfare standards, and waste less food ( Figure 13 ). 4.
